Nerd? Is he no longer alive? What a beutiful rhino and such a great taste in names
. I belive mine is a male, he has the high crest on his neck, and the dominate look on his face when he walks his cage. Im curiouse if yours has settled down when you reach in his aqurium? Min will run like a mad man then once he is in my hands or just hanging on my shoulders he is cool as can be. These lizzards are so smart. Im thinking of getting him a girlfriend cyclura nubli (cuban rock iguana) as a mate or companion. Got some big aquriums if needed to seperate them. Wonder if tehy will be able to cross breed? Any ways Id love to here all about Bull dozer. Dozer is actually short for the same name Bull dozer, When I saw full size rhino;s like yours I thought he would be like a bull dozer wiht the big front arms. Dont know who came up with the name first, but I just call mine Dozer when I speak to him
. By the way you hav a great collection of lizzards.

dont try to cross breed. They won't. There is a good chance they won't even like each other. You would be better off to keep a nubila and cornuta seperate. If you have free roamers like Jif and spend the time she does, it may work to keep them together but if they are in any kind of aquarium, use 2.
Ok. When is the average time when the little rhino's stop freeaking out when you put your hand in the aquarium? Ive been handling mine several times a day every day and he still runs like hell when I put my hand in there to pick him up. Once in my hand he is pretty good for the most part, but id like to kinda tame/raise him right so he isnt scared of humans when he is older.
first off Dozer is a great name. Taming the little ones comes up here every so often. I think most of us agree that the 2 yr mark your cyclura has a sudden confidence boost. Everyone is different and interection is too so its hard to have a steadfast rule. Keep handling and interescting and there will be good days and bad. Just when you think he is tame he will freak out, and vise versa. Right now you are big and a threat. Your little guy is doing everything he can not to be eaten so you have to give him a break and just be patient.
I never handled mine as much as i did my greens but I was in the cage everyday cleaning and straightening or upgrading and they just get used to you presence. It will come, we all go or went through it. At 2 yrs you will notice the biggest change.
How old is Dozer?
Dozer is about 6 months old. I started to let him run around my room at night for a few hours, and I can tell he likes it. I repti shedding aid for fear of losing tails from poor blood circulation. It works great, except my rhino hates it wiht a passion. It takes him 2 weeks to get over me spraying him on his tail (not even in the eyes). I am begining to belive that he is feeling pain from the spray cuase of his open mouth reactions but who knows. Wish I could pair him up with a cuban female but from what your telling me it will never work.
I really need to get a ride to the vet to look at the toes and to find out if he is a male 0

2 years seems to be a magic number for alot of people, but if you want to work with you lizard, you can start by trying to hand feed him his favorite foods. They will often learn to take favorites from your hand( the trick is to get them to eat the food and not accidentally nip your hand). Once they get that down, try putting one hand in the cage and holding the food up higher so that they climb up one hand to get at the food you are holding in the other. It can take alot of time and patience.
Good Luck
Sweet. I have thought about hand feeding him for awhile but I had a debate in my own head. I used to own large monitors and tegus (5 feet) and hand feeding them (even at infants) was a definite no , for the fact that the assosiate food wiht your hand. Now I know the iguanas are vegitarians but I wasnt sure when dozer got older that he would think it would be alright to just peck at some ones hand. Right now he couldnt hurnt me but I know you know what they are capable in adulthood. I dont like it when lizzard opens his mought at you in anger, cause this usally means they are close to biting, I learned a meathod wiht my monitors and tegus that worked well. My argentinain tegu would open his mought to bite and I would simply place a plastic pen in his mouth side ways and he would chomp down on it (grant it he was 1 years old). After several months he never opened his mouht out to bite again, he was the most wonderful lizzard I owned, he didnot have a cage, he lived in my closet and used a kitty litter box. What an amazing lizzard, he was not scared of humans nor angry with them he would just climb up on your lap or lick your towes while your playing video games in the summer. Any ways I had to sell him years back, and I miss him now. But um im not sure what to do wiht Dozer (the rhino) when he opens his mouth in anger. Only times he does it is when either I spray repti-shed-aid on him or when I let him free roam my room and I go to pick him up and put him back in his cage, Note he has never bitten but at this age id like to make sure he has less of a chance when he is big enough to hurt some one. So Im confused for his upbringing now.
P.S. I never stuck a pen down any of my lizzards throats, I was really careful when I put soft plastic in there mouth and this meathod worked with 2 water montitors a white throat (cape monitor) and my BW argentian tegu. Sorry if this sounded cruel but when you have adult (5-10 ft.) water monitors that can really mess you up you need to make sure they wont bite you when they are 8 feet long and have the power to easily rip your whole hand off you arm.
I figured that you would like the name. It pretty well describes the posture that rhino igs sometimes portray.
Nerd = New England Reptile Distributors. Bull Doser is long deceased. His last home was as a free roamer at NERD.
Would love to keep lots of hatchlings, just don't have the time to give them the care they deserve. The juvenile pictures that you may have seen in my photo gallery are hatchlings that have long since found new homes. I only have adults rhinos at this time.
If you decide on a companion stick to the same breed. Aside from the contraversy of cross breeding, The one case of cross breeding that I am aware of resulted in a dead gravid female.
Good Luck with Bull Doser.
