Need some ideas for snake cages.

sullman May 24, 2004 05:07 PM

Hi all,
I have two snakes that are both right now living in 29 gallon critter keeper cages.I bought em both for 39 dollars a piece at a local pet store when they were on sale but I know they won't house my snakes forever! My Yellow Rat snake is a yearling and is around 26 inches in length. Someone told me I could house this snake in there until he was about 3 1/2 feet in length then move him to a bigger enclosure. I just bought a cali King Snake this past weekend and he is about 18 inches and will be in the 29 gallon for some time.

Anyway I was wondering if there are any websites that anyone knows of that has blueprints on how to make a snake cage? I need to know what materials to use, what type of lumber, etc, etc.
I am fairly new to keeping reptiles but I have seen some peoples home made cages and they are awesome! I assume they are also less expensive then for me to go out and buy two 55 gallon or large tanks to house my snakes. Any help would be useful!! Thanks in advance!

www.southernboids.com some examples of homemade stuff.
www.boaphileplastics.com profesional made plastic cages.
I use melamine and glass enclosures for large boids and sweater boxes for little ones.
Its all realative.

Thanks a lot! I can always build something and see how it goes,I just want to use any toxic materials which is why I asked.

What toxic materials do you want to use? Silcone as long as it is 100% is fine after 24hrs.
