However much someone is willing to pay for it.

If boy.......you may struggle to give it away

If girl between 600-800 grams.....about $150.00

If boy.......keep him and spoil him as a pet

If girl....fatten her up....breed her and join the ball craze

If female and a great feeder, parasite free, etc.... $100.... but only to a breeder, preferably one working with co-dominant BP morphs. If she were a 3 year old 2000 gram female long term captive with great history and voracious appetite, I bet you could get up to $300 from the right person.

If male with same qualities.... whatever you can get ($50 at the most).. may have to give him away.

you give me $500 each and I'll sell you alot of big females.....

I'll raise them all up for 18 months for you at that price.......

how many you want?...........

baby @$25.....18 months food and board @ $50-$75.....=$100.....sell @ $500 = $400 extra profit.......

Okay.............!

You said it yourself above......."what people are willing to pay" I sold more then one female over 2000 grams for that price...so this isn't a theory. You may not pay that....I may not pay that. But if someone is in Sept/Oct sitting with $30,000 tied up into a spider and mojave and they are female short........$500 doesn't seem too expensive.

The adult female market is fascinating to me. I am finally in a very strong position with 60 females in my breeding program....But at one time I wasn't. People love to buy the male pastel........the male spider. It's an emotional purchase....it's fun. and then this sobering thought hits them...."I don't have enough females ready." Unfortunately (but thankfully), one can't snap there fingers and have a healthy 2000-3000 gram cb/ch girl appear. It takes years to raise one of these gems.

The demand for a quality 2000-3000 gram cb/ch 7 plus eggs clutch female far exceeds the supply available. If you put a female 2000 plus healthy ch/cb up on the board for sale with a nice pic and a phone number....right now.......try it for $500......I would bet your first phone call will occur within 2-5 minutes. Sure the guy might ask for a price break....but you will be getting phone calls and e-mails faster then you can whistle dixie. You could let it go for $400-450 but if your patient you'll get $500. I saw 2500 cb/ch girls last year in Sept/Oct selling for $800 each. Watch the board.....they don't end up back on the board a second time. They don't get re-posted over and over again like some of the morphs.....they are GONE...POW!

You don't see posts on the board saying...."WANTED, Jungle pastels".......or......."WANTED, male spiders. But what you do see over and over again is "WANTED, Adult Female Ball Pythons". There is nothing in more demand. I realize you have them....great....but try to go buy one.....good luck

If you have them to spare...your in an excellent position. Put some up.......I won't buy them...cause I'm good to go.....but many people are crying for more big healthy cb/ch females. Especially the guys that put all their hope in some wild caught that aren't eating for them and they have nothing to breeding this November.

The question become this......what's more valuable....the $500 bucks or breeding that fat cb/ch girl yourself. We both know the answer, thus the short supply.......

people are sooooo stupid........

........but you gave me an idea.......I am going to offer my 100% hets for about $600 a pair or less........

IF they don't sell....I'll just raise them up....and sell them in another year or two..........

.........

..............

2 things........

most of the ball people have little or no experience at breeding or keeping them .......

most of the people do it all for the money......

(they'll usually lie and say not.....that they just like the snakes better than money)......

.........

have fun..........

60 females.....beats me.....I have ? 15 I think........will keep alot more as I get the baby albinos,ghosts x 2 types.....and even a few 100% het albinos yet.....

good luck

120 snakes......200 baby snakes ......1000 mice....10 tanks of Peromyscus leucopus......3 tanks rats.....5 tanks gerbils......30 buckets with hamster pairs....a snapping turtle that I just never got around to throwing back into river....(he was quarter sized and cold....now he is 8 inches at least).......a fulltime job........a wife and 24 year old kid to cook for.......a yard to mow and all.......and a 100 pound golden retriever that loves everything.....

yep......

if not for money....I'd have maybe one male albino ball and 2 female hets?........

then I'd want a pied.....then another.....

then it grows back into hundreds again........

they pay for themselves and then some...yes.....

$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

to go to auctions and buy stoneware......

Please correct me if I'm wrong here.

So, in a nutshell, if you didn't desire the money this hobby brings to you, you'd still have just as many snakes but you still do it, more or less, because you desire the money. It is amazing how powerful money can be.

Jim, I agree with you , nice 2000 gram females are worth their weight in gold to people who don't have enough ready to breed females. I remember 10 years ago buying adult proven females for around $75 each, now these same females are huge , and still producing clutches of 10 eggs for me ,funny thing is back then people laughed at me for buying Ball Pythons, at that time the Burmese was the hot market , but I am glad I kept my focus on the Ball Pythons, since they are #1 to many people today! I think the Ball Pythons are by far the best investment snakes out there right now, and will be for some time , as long as people don't try to get rich overnight (as reptiles are a long term investment) or crash market values by unloading animals to cheap, we all stand to make a good honest profit with these animals and have some fun at the same time! Ball Pythons are truely one of the top investment animals , and we all need to try and keep it that way, the Ball Python is not a Corn snake, even though the Ball Python has a ton of genetic combinations like the Corns, it is still a Python and not as easy to mass produce as a Corn Snake, so it's value should always be significantly higher than alot of other species! Ball Pythons are called Royal (Regius) Pythons for a reason in my book! Anthony McCain-McCain's Reptiles. www.regiusmorphs.com
