SWIMMING IG

Well I took my iguana outside for some sun, and put him down for a bit and all of the sudden it took off! He ran straight across my yard and when I got close to him he jumped into my pool!!! He swam back and forth a few times before he got close enough to the edge for me to grab him. I was scared the pool water would effect him but he looks good. Now my question is, is it bad if I throw him in there every now and then? Im from El Salvador but live in Los Angeles, In El Salvador the iguanas spend a lot of time in the rivers so I know they Love to swin but is the pool water bad? Please let me know, thanks!

Swimming is great excercise and fun for a caged animal. The chlorine is drying, so rinse him off after his swim.

My Felix loves pools too.

The chlorine and other chemicals in the pool can be irritating to his eyes. You can get a tube of "artificial tears" ointment at any pet store or vets office. Put some of that in his eyes before he goes swimming, to protect them from the chemicals. Then just be sure to rinse him really well after he swims, to get all the chlorine off his skin.

What kind of chemicals do you use? I use baquacil and my babies are fine, and the vet says it's ok. if you have chlorine, i'd be careful. i don't know what chlorine does to them, but for me, baquacil is awsome. it doesn't bother anyone from human to iggie.
