Help! Geckos got in a fight....

sara h. May 25, 2004 07:17 AM

I had 2 females and one male housed in the same cage, and recently acquired another female. (These are all adult geckos, around 7 inches in length) When I added the new female, the male went CRAZY and bit the CRAP out of her. He opened the skin on her back, and now there is a large portion of skin (about the size of a dime) that is just hanging off of her, and (i guess its an inner layer of skin?) is exposed. I soaked it in hydrogen peroxide, and covered it in neosporin. Is there anything else I can do for her?

After the skin is healed, how would be the best way of re-introducing her? I was thinking of taking the male out and housing him seperately, and putting the females all in the same cage. Then, I would re-introduce the male after a week or so. Would this work?

Thanks in advance.

Has this new gecko been quarantined? I'd hate to hear that you put your other geckos at risk.

I did not buy the gecko from a pet store. A close friend gave her to me... so in a sense, she was quarantined.

Are you sure it is a female? Males usualy react to males like that.

either way you shuld be houseing them seperatly anyways. Any new gecko should always be quarintined to protect from disease.

they WERE housed seperately!! quarantining is not an issue!! all i want to know is how to introduce them without all of the fighting. yes, i am sure that it is a female.
