hatchlings

clemie May 25, 2004 09:51 AM

Hi all

My Caramel breed with my cremsicle (her first time) and im due to hatch out 11 eggs in roughly 3 weeks time. Im expecting normals het for caramel / cremsicle and as much as would like to keep them all i can't, so i will have to sell them. But does anybody have an idea of what would be a fair price for the hatchlings.

Or am i likely to get any other colours that might be worth something else. I've already got homes for most of them but just don't know what to ask for them in return.

Thanks for your help and advice.
Clem

Clem,
I see your thread got lost due to the 'use of proper english' thread above.lol. In all honesty, I would be willing to pay $20-40 dollars for them depending on their appearance, which may vary alot. It also varies from person to person depending on what they're looking for. I like thick-black bordered corns so if that popped up in one of your hatchlings, it might be worth more to me as opposed to someone looking for a reduced black appearance (any trait could be used to make this point).

My reasoning for the $20-40price is simply based on the fact that you do not know how these normals will turn out as adults. I've seen caramels and creamsicles for anywhere between $30-50 dollars depending on the bloodline or breeder BUT hets are a little trickier to sell IMO.

Basically, you will get all normals het caramel since it is a guttata X emoryi cross bred to a caramel, which is a simple recessive mutation (think of it as a form of anery but with more yellow).

You may be able to ask more IF you kept the babies back for awhile to see if they developed any unusual amount of yellow BUT that is a gamble and you may get stuck with a bunch of average-looking normal hatchlings for awhile.

Sincerely,
Jason
