404 vs XP3

ladybug104c May 25, 2004 10:10 AM

I have been compairing the Fluval 404 and the RENA FilStar XP3 and can't decide what one to get. My old filter broke and poor Binx needs something. I have been cleaning the tank way too often because of the lack of filter. Anyway I have read the pros and cons of both filters and still can't decide. I have found both online for decent prices (have to stay below $100). I was hoping for some input.
What kind of filter do you use (Iturnrocks, I know you built your own and it's kickin' but I can't do that lol)?
What have you found that you love about your filter?
What have you found that you hate about your filter?
Thanks in advance.

Does anyone post here anymore? I am thinking I am going to go with the Fluval 404. Please stop me if this is a bad idea!

STOP! Bad idea! The FilStar XP3 is much better than the 404 in my opinion. I have the XP3 and it does a great job. The XP3 has bigger compartments for filter media and primes (starts) a lot easier than the 404 does. So if you havent bought the 404 yet, go with the XP3!

Thanks. I did not get it yet. We have to wait two more paychecks (4 more weeks) before we can get anything. I will look around for a good size and well priced XP3. My husband was leaning toward the 404 and I was leaning toward the XP3.

I just got my XP3 online from JC Aquatics for $84.99. Shipping is $16.99 I believe, but this is the cheapest that I could find it even with shipping included. If you can purchase before the end of June, JC Aquatics migt be a good place for you to buy from. The webpage is below.
