Introducing male and female

juliecwuk May 25, 2004 10:48 AM

Hi,
I am about to purchase an adult male to put in with my adult female. I will have him in quarantine for a few days and then will introduce them together into a new enclosure. Any tips on the best procedure? and how will they react with each other? good scenarios and bad! i need to make sure everything goes well!

Thanks in advance
Julie

Are you going to be keeping them together or just for breeding? If you are just going to put them together for breeding I would put the female in and let her get used to the new enclosure first, just because female (in my opinion) get stressed out easier. Either way I would go ahead and put the female in first. We put our two females in the tank first (for a couple days) and then we introduced the male. Hope this helped you some.

Thanks,

I was planning on keeping them together, not just for breeding. Is there any other precautions i need to take since they will be together all the time? We will be putting them into a 36"x12" vivarium with 4 or 5 hides thoughout it.

Also how do they react with each other when they are put together?

Thanks
Julie

Just make sure they have humid hides...Most of my leos stay in the humid hide more then they stay in their caves. I have noticed that when the female is gravid that the male stresses them out. So you might want to keep an eyes on your female once she is gravid and make sure that she isn't to stressed out because that isn't good. Hope this helps you.

Just wondering what morphs do you have?

1.2.0 Normals
1.0.0 Giant Albino
0.1.0 Giant Normal het for albino
0.3.0 Albinos
0.0.1 Jungle
0.5.0 Tangs
0.0.1 Really dark leo (not sure what morph it is)
0.0.1 Snow
5 eggs in the incubator

The female is normal (but verging on high lavender/yellow), the male will be a high yellow patternless. We were given the female from the owner who didnt want her and was going to feed her to a snake. We always wanted some high yellows so we are purchasing this male morph with the view to possibly getting a female the same as him in the future.

Thanks for your help.
