What kind of iguana is this?

boachick85 May 25, 2004 05:47 PM

Someone siad this is a cuban rock iguana and wants to trade it for a large male guyana redtail i have but i don't think it's a cuban rock based on some pics i've seen of then and suspect it's a spinytailed. Anywho, any comments are greatly apperciated. Thanks!

It's not a Cuban, it's a spinytail, most likely similis. Pretty animal but not worth the trade unless it's an ugly boa. LOL

Oops that implies there are spiny's that look similar to a similis. I admit right up front that I know only two Cten species, the similis and the parealis. I'm in the process of getting to know C. pectinata, thanks to Manny's noosing skills.

Impression? C. similis IS a spiny. As far as I know anyway...

That, as I'm sure the first post said, is an adult C. similis. Not even close to a Cuban.

It's odd how igs get passed around with a wrong species designation. I picked up a C. palearis because a couple in Oregon (they gave it to me because I proved what species it was plus the fact that their honeymoon travelling brought them very close to where I live) bought it from a pet store as a juvenile "Iguana iguana", but it didn't conform to specs. so they asked about it online. I still can't believe my luck. I've not seen a C. palearis offered for sale in 8 years of browsing herp classifieds.
