Calcium problem with baby jackson???

frogge99 Jun 17, 2003 09:40 PM

I have 5 of my baby jacksons still alive. One was just too small to make it I guess. Well, I feed them calcium dusted crickets but I have one that has started having trouble controling his tongue. He will go after a cricket and then have trouble getting his tongue back in. Could it be from a calcium problem?
I have some spray on calcium that I use on my beardies crickets sometimes. Could I mix that with water and use it to mist the babies for extra calcium to drink??? Any suggestions deeply appreciated. I don't want to lose any more of them.

I also have them under a 5.0 reptisun UVB light and mist them 3-4 times a day.

It isn't always a calcium problem with baby jax. They are quite delicate to raise and frankly, many simply don't make it for undiagnosed reasons. If he's getting dusted foods and is under UVB lighting it is probably something else. Live bearer babies are still a bit of a mystery, and sometimes the health problems that show up had more to do with the health of the mother. What are you gutloading with? It may be another type of deficiency rather than calcium. You can overdose it. There are some great gutloads available from www.herpnutrition.com. If they aren't separated yet do it now, and make sure the one is not being stressed by anything such as views of other animals, human activity, and that temps and humidity are correct. Also, there are recent articles on raising babies on www.adcham.com and www.chameleonnews.com. Good luck!
