Check out this link to my thread in the box turtle forum about my rescue of this turtle. Plus,I have a dozen more pics of him there. How can anyone run these over or collect wild ones and put them in a 20gallon tank when they have so much room to roam in nature? Well, enjoy! ~Jason

When I was about 6-7 years old growing up in Oklahoma we came across a turtle crossing the road. My dad stopped and we took the little guy home. After about a week my parents said I had to let it go. We had a fenced in back yard that backed up to a huge field. The fence had several holes under it from the dog digging. Anyway, skip to the end, I let him go in the back yard figuring he would definitely go under the fence never to be seen again. Well to my surprise he stuck around. We would go out everyday and feed him. He would be walking along the fence and we would call his name and I swear he would come. Maybe he just came when he saw us but it didnt make any difference to us. He would eat lettuce out of our hands and almost seemed to enjoy being there. Well, winter came and Charlie disappeared. We figured he was gone for good, again, but when Spring came around Charlie was back. We think he stayed under our shed but not sure. So we had another spring and most of that summer with him. Unfortunately we moved at the end of that summer and I never saw him again. Damn, kinda sad typing this out, LOL. Shortly after we moved they put a huge shopping center in the field behind the house so I hope he found somewhere nice to go. I think I need to get a turtle one day soon. Sorry about this lenghty post. Turtles are great.

EP,
I love turtles too but with my lifestyle, its not fair for me to keep them when they require highly specialized diets and need to be feed every single day. Its tough for most people to return them back to the wild when the find them since they are so cute and wise-looking but its the right thing to do. I'm glad you shared your story. It was a little sad but what can ya do, I truly believe that turtles were not meant for captivity/life in a tank. Its nice knowing that I'm not the only one who feels that way.
