Agressive Wild corn

Cuda Jun 17, 2003 10:02 PM

I was driving around tonight when i saw a sub-adult(2-3ft) corn. well i got out of my car and approached. The snake promptly got in a defensive position and began striking. i got a little closer (3 ft) then decided to get on home. Has anyone seen a corn start striking at a distance of five feet? It was still striking as i walked away.

Yes, I had an Okeetee aptly named Fuego (which means fire in Spanish) that described her personality perfectly. She was unhandleable because she was so defensive. She would repeatedly strike at me from her tank when I was near or if I put my hand in. I traded her off finally, but she's as still aggressive as she ever was. Definitely the exception to the cornsnake disposition.

Someone came in out store yesterday with a snow corn it was a male (too bad i want a female) She was moving away and couldnt take it with her it was about 2 1/2 ft long pretty thin, I found out she was giving it 2 fuzzies a week, yeah ok thats what its thin. So i go to the back room holding it im about to make a tank and a feel something scratching the side of my finger, The snake was tryin to est me lol. He didnt strike, just opened his mouth and tried to swallow my finger sideways. So i put his head under running water, he lets go, i go back to making the tank now hes attached to my other finger so i just leave him in the sink and finish making the tank. Needless to say he was hungry so i thawed out an adult mouse and he gladly took that down and was looking for more.

I guess this doesnt really have to do with you finding the wild snake, I dunno I just felt like tellin a story.

Not corn but I remember meeting my first large WC aggressive boa after years of only dealing with docile CB versions. Quite a wakeup call.

I go to Jasper to catch Okeetees every year. More bite than not, regardless of what books say. I kept one nice-looking male for breeding purposes and he still nails me. I named him Escobar, because Pablo Escobar was on the newspaper I first laid him on in his new home. I honestly haven't worked with him to tame him down (with lots of snakes to care for) but 9 times out of ten, he'll tag me when I remove him for cage cleaning. Doesn't really hurt or bleed much, I'd rather get bitten by a corn snake than bitten by a mosquito! Still makes you flinch every time though!

I had an okeetee female who would try to strike at me anytime she saw me. I will pretty much dump her from her feeding box back into her tank, for fear of being bitten. She was definately an exception to the docile nature of corns. If I would walk in the room, she would try to strike at me to the point that she would almost knock herself out on the glass of her tank!
