Does anyone else use a ceramic heat lamp?

fadetolemons May 26, 2004 02:06 PM

I was wondering if anyone else uses one of these ceramic, flat bulbs other than me, and if they have any problems with it getting too hot. I've recently noticed how hot mine can get and i'm worried it could be too hot, anyone know? My thermometer is reading it as fine but it just feels like it's really hot.

I use only a CHE, works great for me. I have it above the warm side, keeps it between 87and 91. I use ceramic tile as my substrate, it holds the heat well, and is good belly heat for her.

Basically I use it like a regular heat lamp that emmits light. Keep it above the tank about 12" off the groud(depends on room temp, but never closer than the top of the tank 12".

Any questions or if you want pics just drop me an email.

Do you think it would be alright to have it just set on top of the screen on the top of the cage? I don't have anything for it to clamp onto above the tank.

I don't see why that would be a problem. From my experience it doesn't create more heat than the same size light bulb. So I think it would be ok.
