that part of this industry scares me. I took in a ball python that was also called a redtail boa. the guy needed to get rid of it because his wife was pregnant and he needed to get rid of the dangerous snake in the house. (he needed to get rid of it anyway because he was unaware of a few care mistakes he was making)

yeah yeah i have to put my two cents in im happy your friend has this snake very happy and healthy but seeing that it is a retic i would advise either he read up more about it or get rid of it im sure several people in this forum will agree with me that large constrictors such as retics and anacondas arent something you just jump into there is a lot of research needed and needs to be lots of smaller species experience before just jumping into it if he cant tell a redtailed boa from a reticulated python thats a dangerous situation now i am biast and think anacondas and retics make excellent pets but you have to have a lot of experience and knowledge about them because they are pets that have the potential to kill you within a matter of minutes just help your friend get some info and be very carefull with it best of luck

he takes "fluffy" to the vet every month. and it was the vet that told him it was a red-tailed. i told him if a vet dose not know what kind of snake u got u need a new vet. he will be travaling the world this fall in his tour and is going to give me her.

there is no possible way a vet that would see a reptile would tell him a reticulated python is a redtail boa. I had someone tell me a vet asked him what his tiger retic was...but eventhough it is a common morph...one would still think a vet would be able to tell it is a reticulated python morph at least. No way would a vet confuse a boa with a python

yea this vet is not the best. the vet dose not do reptiles and this was his first snake. a friend of mine went there some time over the winter with his water dragon and the first thing the vet said was wow thats a funny looking iguana.

I believe him. People do and say some of the dumbest things. Just go into chat sometime. I was in there arguing with a guy who said his retic would live in a 55 gal. aquarium its entire life with no probs. He was a self described snake 'expert'
A vet though should have at least made an effort to find out before just guessing as he obviously did. Hard to believe that he mistook a python for a boa let alone the species.
Whats the vets name? I'll send him a childrens book on snakes. lol

maybe he had a dwarf retic and he was messing with you just to get a reaction. most people in this hobby understand size and 55 gallons will not house a 15-25 foot adult snake. I would not obther taking an animal to that vet...how can they diagnose an animal they have no knowledge about. I have had vets tell me I need to get full spectrum lighting for my snakes and thats the last visit i make to those vets.

Nope it wasn't a dwarf. He was just an idiot. I also was talking to a girl with a grey banded X milk X corn snake. Ridiculus. And another guy who wanted to breed a carpet with a burm. It amazes me everytime i get there. There are some very knowledgable people in chat from time to time but it seems like the idiots are taking over.lol
