Cricket free? Brumation?

Ok, a couple thing happened, and I’m not sure if they are good or bad…. I asked a few people I knew that have had a lot of experience with their own pets and also those at the pet store they work at and they didn’t seem to think it was too bad, but I’ll ask here anyway.

Summer is coming and my house has had a very huge jump in temperature. Within a very short time span, my bearded dragons tank had become much too hot and I would fine him lying away from the lamp with a very dark appearance. I turned the light down and closed the blinds in my room. The temperature cooled down a lot… but I think the decrease in light at hear tricked him into thinking it was winter and that it was time to brumate. He started sleeping all day, not eating very often or drinking. I asked the people (^above) and the forum if it was possible to do that to him, it was pretty unanimous that that was it. I raised the light level slowly without increasing heat and he perked up, now he is awake and active during the day. But (yeah, another but) he wont eat crix any more. I now own a cricket free Beardie. A lot of people talk about wanting that, but I don’t, it worries me! He will eat all of the giant mealworms I’ll give him and he always has veggies in his dish… Is this REALLY bad? Or am I just paranoid?

I think what I’ll do is make sure the worms are gut loaded, and just try to introduce him back to crix.

Sound good? If it helps, he is only 7 months old, but pretty big compared to some I have seen. I’ll post his weight and length asap on this thread. Thanks for the help, I hope I’m just paranoid.

as they get older they need less crix and other animal protien. He may be bored with his diet and just looking for a change. I only offer crix 2X a week so my BDs dont get bored with their diet. As long as he is eating and you are supplimenting properly, I would not worry. BTW, gut loading is good but dusting is more important.

I would get a fecal if things dont seem normal. you should do one 2X a year anyway.
