A pic of my new gargoyle "Charlie". And a feeding Q.......

HerpCrazy May 26, 2004 03:14 PM

This is a pic of "Charlie", my new garg.
He's AWESOME!!!!! I never thought I'd like a glass-climber, but he's just too cool.

Here is my question...

The place that I got him from rarely fed him anything but crickets, so I want to get him on a better diet.
I ordered some of the T-Rex garg. food, and got a jar of the crested gecko food until then.
I mixed it up and put it in a bowl for him, but he didn't eat it until I held him and put the bowl to his mouth.:P He did lick up a bunch then, but I can't see me handfeeding him eveyday, hahaha!

Should I maybe offer other foods to perk his interest?
What would he like?

Thanks!!
Jen

My gargoyles Love mashed fresh peaches. Thats how I add my cal and sups.

They also enjoy wax worms. I also used the gargoyle diet but they liked the peaches with a drop or two of honey much better.

Jen,
You should be glad your Gargoyle is eating crickets. However, it does seem yours look as if it's past the juvie stage. R. auric. are very prone to obesity! This effects breeding in the species ecspecially. Your in luck that he is eatine crickets and not just babyfood, because a diet of pure babyfood is not as nutrionally satisfying as crickets. The "perfect" scenerio would be if you fed you R. auric a die of crickets at every feeding except once a week a mixture of the T Rex(optional) mixed with babyfood. Babyfood has been a great source of filling them with calcium in females especially. You sound like you nothing to worried about!

I've had a little gargoyle for a few weeks now and I've been giving it various meat baby foods, gargoyle gecko diet, and fruit baby foods. I tried crickets but it didn't seem interested and I didn't want to leave them in there. I have been mixing sups with the baby foods and it really chomps it down! When it gets a little bigger Im going to try the crickets again unless I really need to now I will try again.

What you are doing mixing meat and fruit babyfood is okay to help your Auric get some extra protein. However, I would try to get your baby on crickets as soon as you can. Try once a week adding one cricket in the cage. Make sure the crickets are as big as their heads!
