Really Hungry Albino Cal King

Dinobot711 Jun 17, 2003 10:24 PM

I've had my little kingsnake for a few months now, at least 3 or 4, and I usually handle him a 2 or 3 times a week and feed him every 4 or 5 days. Throughout the whole time I've had him, I think only twice I have picked him up without him trying to eat my finger. No matter if he just ate, hadn't eaten for 4 days, whether I just touched a mouse, a turtle, or just washed my hands, he always does this. He usually doesn't rattle his tail, just every once in a while, but once I pick him up he gets excited and looks around for the nearest finger. He still pretty small, about 20 inches, so it doesn't hurt, but it is a pain because I have to leave him on my finger till he lets go. he's too little to pull off without hurting him. Any chance he'll ever stop this? Do you think I should handle him more? less? Thanks for any suggestions.

When he bites you, if he holds on try putting him on the floor, whilst he is holding on, then he will probably feel more secure and let go. I do the with my cali-kings, except it can be a pain when they try the bite and constriction method.

Wow, what a feeding response! If you feed it in its enclosure I would definitely start feeding in a different enclosure. He's trained to think anything coming into his enclosure is food. Hopefully that would help because that's going to start to get painful (or at least bloody) when he gets big.
