Ok, what is the locality on this Boa??

RioBravoReptiles May 26, 2004 05:08 PM

I know exactly where this boa was collected.. this image is a scan of a 35MM negative I took in 1979.

Where do you think this animal is from?

Have fun!

Peru? Maybe Iquitos? I also thought that maybe it was from Paramaribo, Suriname.
Am I close?

This animal Looks remarkably similar to some guyanans I have. Blotted chocolate saddles, purple sides, buckskin top, dark medallions. But, I am far from an expert. The pic is blurry but, I am not using that as an excuse if I'm wrong. I would have to go with guyana on this one as well.

At first look, I'll say a peruvian (north of peru, like Iquitos). But if it's a game, the answer must be one totally different (like Guyana ).

... that boa was collected a few miles west of the damn on the south end of the Affobaka impoundment in SURINAME.

A really pretty snake, the scanned image does it no justice at all. If i can figure out how to get a better scan, I'll post the results.

that's the only reason i had a clue that it might be a suri. otherwise, i would have had my thoughts pigeon-holed like everyone else and thought that all suri's had HUUUUGE peaks... what most don't know is that most suri's aren't what you see on this site every day and are made to believe that's what they look like (many of which shouldn't be labeled as suri's)
