I got a new cage is it going to be big enough????

Chameleon996 May 26, 2004 06:00 PM

I got Joker a new cage today. It is 36"lx18"dx16"h, all glass with a screen top. Joker is almost 7 months old and is 15 inches long.

My question is this. Is this cage big enough to last? From what I have read he won't get much bigger. If it is big enough would it be big enough for another beardie to join him?

The cage should be as long as the lizard and twice as it is wide. So you should be okay.

That's about the size of a 40gal breeder tank. That would do for one dragon max. Would be very close quarters for two, and not enough room for them to get away from each other if need be. Your dragon may still have quite a bit of growing to do. They get to be 17-20 inches average length, and for a 20 inch dragon the 40 gal would be a bit tight. So one dragon max for that size cage.

Thanks. Thats exactly what it is, a 40 gallon breeder. Why do they call it a breeder? I was planning on getting a female when I go to Daytona in aug. so I will just put her in another cage. I think I would rather keep them seperate anyway.

Thanks again!

It's just the name given to the wider lower cages I think. I think it just means more floor space then height. Yeah that would be good to keep her separate and introduce if you wish to breed in the future for short periods, so not to cause any prolonged stress on her. Have fun in Daytona!! Still trying to find my way there this summer
