Is there a way to tell if a female lizard is gravid or just fat?
Any help is appreciated.
Thanks

What species of lizard are you talking about? Some females, get pretty orange stripes or bars of color while gravid.

Some appear quite large, but you can usually feel the eggs. Or even see the lumps in her sides while resting.

I have a southern alligator lizard. I tried feeling for eggs, and I feel what I think are lumps but they could just be sections of scales. I know my alligator lizards mated about a month and a half ago and she is looking plump, but i just wanted to know if you have a good way to tell for sure.

If you KNOW they mated, LOL and shes getting plump, thats a GOOD INDICATOR, hehehehehe !

I dont know, how long it takes, from breeding time to laying for alligator lizards, I'll have to look.

I know most are egg layers.

But I know from all my other lizards, things to look for.

Has her appetite increased since she mated? Near egg laying time it DECREASES, and they begin to dig excessively !

Other then seeing or feeling, the eggs, just keep an eye on her if they mated. Provide her with a place for laying.

And be sure to let us know,

LOL! Sorry, I know I asked some pretty dumb sounding questions but this is my first lizard breeding experiance and I want it to be a success. She has no stopped eating and started digging. YAY!! Can't wait for the eggs. I'll keep you posted.
Thanks

No question is dumb, if you don't know, thats why we are all here, hehehehe ! I just meant, that if you saw them mating, and shes getting heavy, its a GOOD chance shes gravid.

But hey, sometimes it does not take, so your question was FINE

I hope she is, and I hope you get to experience watching them.

It is so very exciting to watch them hatch, I will never forget seeing my first lizard baby's lil head peeking out Very COOL !

I still get just as excited, always a neat thing to see.

Good luck, let me know if she does, I'm usually around.
