Female laying..

grimreapar87 May 26, 2004 08:36 PM

Hi, i was wondering, if my female, who ive actually seen mating with the male, HAS to lay eggs? is it unhealthy for her if she doesnt?
lately, shes been climbing onto the rock, and kind of using her back legs, making swimming motions sort of.
Currently, shes in a glass tank with nothing at the bottom and just two rocks for basking sites (UVA/UVB).

If she has eggs and doesn't lay them she will get eggbound and die. If you suspect she is ready to lay, set up a laying box of dirt outside of the tank and put her in it for a few hours. You may have to do that several times before she actually lays them.

I have had RES drop eggs in the water before, but that was when land WAS available.
