wild green anoles

brads May 26, 2004 09:06 PM

i live in eastern lincoln county, north carolina, which is on the west side of lake norman if that helps, and id like to get some green anoles from outside. its been hot weather for the past week or two, yet i havent seen any anoles, or other lizards. ive only been able to look within bike riding distance of my house, and we live in a development under construction, and im new to the area, so if anyone who lives by me could tell me some places where i could collect some green anoles, thatd be great.

Unless you live on the coastal plain, you are unlikely to find green anoles; and if you do, they are probably part of a small, isolated population that will not tolerate your disurbance.

Really, green anoles do not become common enough to collect until you hit the southeastern part of NC. I will say one thing, however, you are better off to carefully collect a few wild, healthy green anoles and save a little money, rather than supporting the pet trade's sale of crowded, emaciated green anoles in shops.

Good luck.
