Juvi eastern milksnake

haddachoose1 May 26, 2004 09:27 PM

I found two juvenile eastern milksnakes at a site in Ozaukee Co., WI today. They were both likely from the same clutch since they were found in the same vicinity. Both were about 8-10" long.

The other one was in shed, so I won't post a photo of that one. I got some great defensive poses from him, too bad he was so opaque. Here's another shot of the same snake.

Nice one, Tim. I like to see the color/pattern variations. In MI there's tremendous variability, as I've tried to show in the past. Some of the northernmost milks resemble Plains milksnakes in my opinion. Keep up the good work.

I figured you'd like that one Terry - lol. If you'd like, I could email you or post a shot of the other specimen. It was blue, but it's pattern was obvious.

Sure! Why don't you post it here. Some others might want to see it.

BTW, I haven't seen a single milk in MI, yet. It's been raining for almost a week here. The water table is getting back to normal, and more. And the small natricines are doing great..I saw five red-bellies and two browns and water and garter snakes last night on a short walk. But the milks don't like this weather. Maybe I'll see some if it ever warms up and dries out.

Later....TC.

This is the one that was in shed mode. Looks like it would have been a beauty if I would have waited around for a few days - lol. Good to hear you're at least seeing some herps. It's been slow here as well - rain, cold and more rain.

Dang! Looks like a baby fox snake, but not quite as fat. Thanks.

I was woundering, where are eastern milks most commonly seen in Wisconsin? Ive gone out a number of times looking but I never find any. What is the most preferred habitat?

Thanks

Mike
