Incandesant UVB bulbs....

daveman May 26, 2004 10:33 PM

Hi. I'm building a cage thats about 5 and a half foot tall, 4 foot wide, and 2 and a half feet deep. I'm putting two fluorescent bulbs and I'd like to put in an incandescent uvb bulb. Since I have never used a uvb incandescent bulb I have some concerns about overheating. My cage when its done will not have a whole lot of ventalation. Its 3 sides fake rock wall and the front is acrylic.

My question is how much heat do these bulbs actually produce?
I'm looking at 100 watt spot. Does this produce more or less heat, or is it about the same?

Also to whomever is using these bulbs, what brand do you have and how would you rate it?

Thanks...

DaveMan

Who makes a Incandesant UVB bulb? I have only seen flouresant bulbs that have no heat output and are only good if used within 18" of the animal. They also have Mercury Vapor bulbs which put off a lot of heat by comparsion and are good for up to 6' from the animal. I.E. Install a small vent towards the ceiling and use a Mercury vapor bulb instead on a tall enclosure. Whats this for?

Your right, it is actually a mercury vapor bulb. Its for my new tokay cage. The lights are more for plants than they are the animals.....
