During a shed(within a few days) will they become extremely pissy and not eat?

YES!!! or mine do at least.

My burm wont usually eat for about 2 weeks before he sheds, and the last week before he sheds, he is completely unhandleble.

I had another male that didnt really care. He would eat anytime, and even when he was actually shedding would do no more than hiss at you.

It probably depends a little on the individual snake, but its not an abnormal thing. Just give them their space until you see the skin in there, and theyll go back to normal.

My burm will usually eat unless his eyes are clouded. Once they clear, even if he's about to shed, he'll eat. Even with clouded eyes he'll only hiss a little until I have a firm grip on him and have him supported. Then he mellows out again. I don't think that's the norm though. I think I got lucky.

As a rule most snakes will go off feed while they are in the process of shedding. Once their eyes turn cloudy (blue) then they can become extremely irritable, but that is because they are vulnerable in the wild during this time period. Just give your snkae the space needed and limit all handling until after the shed is complete. Also ensure the humidity levels are higher during this cycle and it should shed completely without any problems. Hope this helps, Todd
