Heating pad?

troyez70 May 26, 2004 11:32 PM

I am sold on undertank heating and I wonder if it is safe to use a regular (human) heating pad. I have heard yes and no. Some say they are not meant for constant use, some say they have used them for years with no problems. Any ideas on this would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, a few years ago I tried the human heat pads. I had a older one and two new ones. After about 9 months or so the older one started to melt where the cord goes into the pad.
The NEW ones didn't last that long!!! I thought it was a fire hazzard so I only use Kane heat mats now. I get my Kanes from QC Supply on the web.
I don't think human heat pads are made for 24-7 use.
I hope this helped you,
Good luck...John

I've never used Kane's heat pads. If I'm out of heat tape, I just use whatever heat pad is available. Are Kane's better than the usual?

Kanes are the "Rolls Royce" of the heat mats. You can also check them out on Big Apple Herps web site. All my Boas and Pythons have one.
Good luck...John

Most reptile heating pads, or at least the good ones are made from material that makes them next to impossible to catch fire. Not the case with human heating pads.
