a venomoid is a venomous snake with its venom glands and ducts cut out so it cant produce venom. a barbaric practice that should be stopped
Here in Arizona there is a vet that does this procedure on snakes with a very high success rate. He is particular in that he generally only does the procedure for educational or institutional purposes. The animals are anestetized and recover very quickly with no ill effects. Certain zoos and classes inthe Phoenix area protect themselves and their employees this way. I personally would not (or need) animals this way but it certainly appears to benefit the public on this side (insurance, safety, training). This is a very debated issue with good points on both sides. But it appears the venomoids are here to stay.
