is this ok??

eternal May 27, 2004 11:53 AM

I have a new baby geyri and i have had him about a 4 days.
Hes active, runs around all day ,takes little naps then basks again.

My question is this . He hasnt really eaten yet (acclimating i suppose) until today. he has a dish of dand. grns, mustard grns and a turnip grns . Some water ( cuz hes a little wrinkled).
I just gave him a powdered mix of lentils, millet, grn peas , miner-all , and bees pollen. He started eating this alot . he also drinks the water . he only licks the veggies though.

is it ok that he loves his bean powder and drinks water but not eat his veggies much?

thanks

How large is he? Any dry stuff like beans and lentils can be an impaction problem with very small guys if you have pieces of any size. It's very good that he's eating something, and I understand it's common for acclimating Geyris to drink standing water. One of my two drank right away upon arrival.

I don't know how much of a concern it is, but I would try to get him eating his greens as quickly as possible, since that should be his main source of nutrients and water. Maybe try reducing the bean powder over a week or so and sprinkling red lentils on his greens to invite him over. I wouldn't put ground bean powder on greens, since it will get gross with any moisture on the greens. But whole small lentils might be ok depending on the size of your little guy.

Mine was doing the same thing for a little while. So I started sprinkling bee pollen over the greens and I took the dry mix out for a few days. Now he eats both but I still think he likes the dry stuff better.

I have two new little Geyri, and have discovered that they don't like feeding dishes! They eat their greens much quicker if I put them on flat plastic lids from yogurt containers! I realized this when I put the greens right in front of one on the ground (birdseed substrate), and he wolfed them up. So now these new guys don't get any bowls, just flat lids for food!
