What are some good questions to ask a veternarian that claims to deal with exotics?

Received my Salvator baby yesterday and wanted to get it to a vet for a fecal since its a WC and was told by the dealer that they dont treat their animals. It seems and appears healthy(has clear eyes, very active and inquisitive, tremendous apetite already! Hasnt been as shy as i thought it would be either, actually stays out in the open on the branches in his enclosure and will walk right up to the glass and stare at me. So far so good, wish me luck. I'll post pics as soon as i get some developed. Thanks all

I'm not sure how good all those lists are for Vets claiming to be good with herps. My older brother took his Nile monitor to one of the guys on the list a few years back to have a mite problem taken care of. The vet gave him a care sheet for an iguana and told him they're basically the same thing!

One, its harder to find a vet to go through the phonebook, and ask around and eventually you find out as I did before a vet was experimenting because he didnt know exactly what to do.
I checked both, found a vet that was on both as well was suggested by others and proved to be very very good.
It helps alot to understand the animal and its biology etc before you need a vets care to know if the vet you go to is right for your animals needs.
Most on those lists dont have private practices but work for universites or zoos, yet can still help you. Sounds like maybe you mentioned part of a situation, not nearly enough info involved with that case. A good herpvet knows how to treat your animal if given the whole truth when asked about your husbandry, etc yet most vets only see an animal before its too late and are told what they want to hear about the animals husbandry, therefore they draw conclusions from what they are told.

on this little guy and once i get the results i'll post and let you all know the results because if it does have some sort of parisite that may not be life threatening and can be taken care with a proper set up i'd rather not have the vet administer any meds knowing that these medications they use are usually for dogs and cats and can have an ill effect on my monitor. But if it happens to be something serious i wont hesitate to get it taken care of.

Almost any vet should be able to run one, it's very similar to doing it for mammals. Prescribing the medicine is another matter (even though that's not rocket science either)

Guess i'm real lucky with my vet. He came over to check my set up, gave me some ideas for improvement. He loves me, or it might just be that I pay in cash. lol
