well my bd spike has been doin good since my other bd passed away. he was eating very well (if not better) and growing like a big male bd should. well he peaked at 420 grams....i thought this might be alittle unhealthy and decided to cut back on the meal worms. recently (like the past month) he has lost some weight (down to 352 today), and i notice that he hasn't been eating quite as much. he still seems really lively and has plebty of color and normal feces. I think that it might have been that he (don't get tooo mad at me) was a little neglected this past month.between ap tests and finals and a ton of other stuff thats been goin on i haven't been "regular" in his care. he has been getting his salad in the mornin but i haven't given pellets or worms very much. now that its the summer i want to get him back to his happy healthy self and i have plenty of time to do it (he needs to be spoiled rotten again. i think the grage has been way too warm and i'm gonna bring down the wattage on his light to like 40 (i really need to drop down the heat in there....also he has a little weazing thing when he breaths out of his nose real fast (is this anything)????? thanks for your help and sorry about rambling so much

How old is he?

Stop with the mealies and if he still needs insects use roaches, silkies or crix. I might be missing one that is good, I'm not sure.

What exactly is in his salad?

Do you use any supplements?

Personally I think that is too much of a weight loss and 420grams to begin with is not overly big for an adult male (if he is indeed an adult).

WIth the wheezing I really don't know what it sounds like but I've heard it can be signs of a URI (Upper Respiratory Infection). I've also heard this when my beardie's face is shedding. The nose plugs sometimes make a whistle sound.

Now for the slap on the hand about the neglect. DON'T DO THAT!!! Poor helpless little beardie

Okay, I'm done with the hand slap.

Give some info and I bet we can help get things straightened out.

First, stop feeding the romain and use greens like, Collard, Turnip, Mustard, etc. Carrots should not be used as a staple either. Here's a couple of sites that will help you out a ton with regards to what should be in the salad. Make sure you look these over very well. You need to work on that diet !

Site I
Site II

Insects should only be fed a couple times a week now since your beardie's an adult now.

If you get the salad right you shouldn't have to use much supplementation at all. Maybe a couple times a month.

I do believe if you continue feeding him what you have been your beardie's health will continue to decline and he will have increasing health problems.

I'd pay close attention to the wheezing. Since his diet hasn't been all that great his immune system may be depleted and he could very well have a URI. I'd also pay close attention to anything else you think may be a problem, again because of his diet and immune system.

I would think if you get the diet straightened out your beardie will be in great shape!!!

Good luck with him and feel free to ask more ?'s if you have them.
