Female Royals - Growth Rate??

SandBoaUK May 27, 2004 01:50 PM

Could you guys please tell me how fast your baby female royals grow?

I have read and heard that they can grow at astonishing rates. How long would you expect a female to get up to say 800g??

Any help much appreciated.

To get to 800 grams is probably an average of 1 year. This all depends on how much you feed them of course.

i got a girl up to 9 hundred something within a year & I only fed her once a week,,every now & then when someone didn't eat I would let her clean up...she is a feeding machine & was taking down medium rats that just astonished me. I had given her a large rat once but it was two big so since then i've just kept her at small to medium rats & i'm convinced she'd eat a rat right out of the freezer..lol
prob the best one I have

There is MUCH variation here.

On average, if properly maintained most female ball pythons will reach 800 grams by 12-15 months of age.

In my opinion, for breeding, this translates into the following: the vast majority of female will not be large enough to breed before two years of age, many will produce before 3 years of age, and most should be over 3 years of age before good production can be expected. A 4-5 year old female that exceeds 2000 grams is ideal.
