Pair of normals with Striped Bellies - Unusual??? PICS

SandBoaUK May 27, 2004 03:36 PM

Picked these up today. They are just normal royals really, the male has virtually perfect black stripes either side of the belly, the female is not so good, but not bad. These are the only ones like it, out of several hundred. I thought I would see how they pan out. The male is a bit underweight, but he should be ok.

Here is the male:

and the female:

What do you think??

Yeah, I think so. Only problem is, I'm not really a royal person As you can see from my web site!

I am growing on a number I thought were particularly nice, and I may offer them for sale later in the year. I'll just see how things go.

Too bad we don't have genetic testing available to us like for many livestock species. It would be interesting to see if those two are siblings.

I would not be the least bit surprised if you got something out of breeding them together, perhaps a pied. I also wouldn't pay a lot for them due to the uncertainty but I think it is quite possible that there are lots of hets floating around among the thousands and thousands of balls exported from Africa each year. We just need a good way to pick them out.

Hi Chris, there's a good chance that the pair are het for Pied with the heavy markings alongside the bellies. You shouldn't sell them as het or possibly het for Pieds, even though there is a very good chance that they are! Run them on and breed them, or send them up to me in Manchester and I will run them on for you. Eric

How does a FireBall belly compare? Are they all white with no marks or are there any distinctive marks?

Thanks!

He is three times this size now as he was under fed in this pic when I got him. He looks nicer every day. I will try to get some recent pics of him, but can not access the photo gallery from my computer at home????. He has a very nice reduced pattern look with a lot of brown blushing. I thing something interesting will pop from his genetics, but only time will tell.
