got lucky last night..

draybar May 27, 2004 05:32 PM

No, not "that" lucky.....LOL
I went to check on my snakes last night before I went to bed and noticed one of my hatchling trays had not been slid all the way back in place. There was about a 1/2 inch gap and, of course, the little snow was gone.
Well, wasn't much I could do about it so I went to bed.
At about 1:00 A.M. my dogs started barking like mad.
About that time I hear my wife yell, Jimmy get down here quick.
(she does data entry in the evenings and doesn't usually get to bed until after 3:00 A.M.)
Well, with the dogs barking and my wife yelling I thought for sure there was someone trying to break in the house.
So, here I come running down the stairs looking quite menacing I'm sure in my BVD's ...LOL. When I got to the bottom of the stairs there was my little snow corn in the middle of the hall and my dogs barking as if it was a retic or something.
Got lucky!
Jimmy

Glad to hear you got your snow corn back, oddly enough you are not the only underwear cladded crime fighter. A few years back I was staying at a Hotel in Jacksonville with the wife and kids. It was about three o’clock in the morning when I was awaken by screaming coming from the room above me. The screaming sounded desperate enough as to need immediate attention (ie no time to get fully dressed) So I ran upstairs in my boxer shorts to find a mid 20’s guy beating the crap out of some middle age man. With nothing more then my badge and my boat shoes I grab the bad guy by the throat and held him over the rail of the sidewalk, letting him know that he was about to plunge 30 feet to the ground below if he did not cease his poor behavior. My wife came up shortly behind me and handed me my handcuffs and I placed the young man on the sidewalk and waited for the Local Police to show.
As it turned up, the girl screaming was a hooker, the guy getting his but beat was the john and the guy doing the beating was the pimp who was trying to rob the john instead of letting him collect his paid service.
The next morning at the free breakfast I was hearing the employees talking about the “ the big guy in his underwear” that broke up the fight last night LOL. I then realized how funny I must have looked holding a pimp over a balcony while in just my boxers, letting him know he was about to be dropped. He must of wondered if this threat was for real LOL.
Thanks

Its late and at a quick glance, I first thought you woke up and found someone breaking into your home to steal herps (which seems to becoming more and more common from all the theft/reward posts in recent months). Like everyone else, I'm somewhat paranoid about that stuff anymore. In fact, I bought a few boas from someone recently that lived within a few hours drive, so I offered to pick them up at his home(to save on shipping) and I was denied...they offered to meet me somewhere else, but not their home...which I totally respect and understand. Well, I ended up getting them shipped b/c gas prices are so high that shipping was probably cheaper.lol.

Anyway, we've got two alarms, a professional one and then our 85lb Max! He is a big chicken around the snakes, even the tiniest ones. I actually don't even allow him in the herp room anymore b/c it's too sad watching such a fiersome doggy act like a baby so instead, he patiently waits outside the room, laying by the door.lol

I haven't had the misfortune of a snake escape yet and I'm hoping it doesn't happen anytime soon since I might be temporarily moving in with my folks while in between homes this fall...anyway, they've had a red-spectacled amazon/parrot that's been in the family for over 20plus years and it would be awful if one of the snakes got out and found their way into his cage. It would be fine dining for them. I wonder anything like that has ever happened to anyone before? How awful if it ever did!

At any rate, I'm glad you found your snake. BTW..I'm may be obtaining some bairdi from the same lineage yours came from. I'm so excited. I'll fill ya in with more details if and when things go through.
