Hi All,

I've spent the last few weeks debating what I want my next snake purchase to be, and I've decided on a Rainbow Boa (leaning towards a Brazilian) and am wanting some recommendations on where to purchase from. I live in New Mexico, and our local pet/herp shops never seem to carry any. I don't mind purchasing online and having the snake shipped, so any info would be appreciated.

Well, i know what you mean about your local pet store never carrying any snake besides a common boa or a ball as i live in new mexico too!! You might really want to check out LLL Reptile and Supply. They have all kinds of different species and their quality for online shipping is great!! I love doing business with them. So you might want to check them out. You can also look at all the breeders/dealers/retailers on the kingsnake.com homepage. There's got to be at least two hundred. Happy hunting!!!

I took a look at LLL and saw that they have Guyana Rainbows in stock. What's the difference between a Guyana and a Brazilian? I ran a search, and was able to find that they are a bit smaller perhaps, but that was about it. What about colors/patterns and temperament? The pics that I found seem to be much darker than a Brazilian. Anybody know where I would go to find this info?

Well Guyanans are from Guyana and Brazilians are from Brazil, obviously but they're colorations are different as well...and probably size. I don't know if the requirements(heat/humidy,etc.) are the same but i would think they are...humidy wise and everything. Other than that those differences, i don't think they would differ all that much but i'm not for sure...so hey...i'm a big help(can you feel the sarcasm?)!

He has some amazing pictures of brazilians as well as guyanas, columbians, paraguyuans, argentines, etc.

If you are interested in brazilians particularly then you'd probably be disappointed with the guyanas. As adults they are mostly brown much like the columbians but just like all rainbows, they have a wonderful irridescence.

I had bought and adult brazilian from GARY lorio. It was the most beautiful brazilian i have seen. BUT, the snake later died due to an enlarged heart. Not saying it was Lorios fault, but he does know his stuff.

Thanks for the info that you all have given me. I now have one final question. I keep snaekes as a hobby and because I like them, and I don't have plans to breed them anytime in the near future. With regards to BRBs are the males or females smaller on average? Are either more likely to be aggressive or present feeding problems?

The females tend to be bigger and all are bitey when born but tend to settle down with age and handling.

I don't know if Tim Frazier (Illianareps)has sold all of his baby brazilians or not, but he is definitly worth checking out. He just sold me a little guy that is absolutly breathtaking. Tim is a pleasure to do buisness with, and his animals are 100%. Good luck on finding one, they're gorgeous!!
