A few boa questions

HLuterman May 27, 2004 10:24 PM

1. How big, on average, do male columbian boas get? How big do females get?

2. What size tub would you recommend for housing?

3. Is there a humidifier that acts like a thermostat? Like, could I specify what % humidity it should be, and it will maintain it? Can you suggest any good ways of ensuring proper humidity?

Thanks for your time!

Ah, I just answered one of my own questions and discovered Columbian Red Tails only need 60-70% humidity (correct?). This I can achieve easily, even though I live in the desert. So, I just need help with questions one and two. Let me know your own experiences!

Male boas average out to around 5-6ft there are exceptions that get bigger, but I usually cut down on their feeding once they hit that size. Females usually max out at around 6.5-7.5ft. Again there are exceptions. I can count on one hand how many female boas I have seen over 8ft.
As far as caging, I keep my boas that are under 2ft in sweater boxes. Then they move up to blanket boxes until they are around 3.5ft, at that point I try to get them into their permanent housing. Most female boas(up to 8ft) will be fine in a cage with 4'x 2' of floor space. I house my adult males 3'X 2' cages.

Hope I could help, Chris

Please feel free to visit my web page's FAQ section. I have sections on housing, humidity, lighting, feeding, size and general care. If you still have questions after that feel free to let me know.
Good Luck
