Subspecies Characteristica of V.renardi ssp.

1vipera Jun 18, 2003 04:21 AM

How can I distinguish between V.renardi renardi,V.renardi parursinii and Vipera renardi tienshanica?
Can someone forward me a copy of Nilson, G. & C. Andrén (2001) The meadow and steppe vipers of Europe and Asia - the Vipera (Acridophaga) ursinii complex. Acta Zoologica Academiae Scientiarum Hungaricae 47(2-3): 87-267?.
I own 1.1 V.renardi(Cb'98),with the male(length=56 cm) showing a "zig-zag" pattern.
The female(length=83cm!) has a banded pattern(like most V.berus bosniensis),their offspring have both patterns combined.
I heard(through word of mouth)V.renardi specimens(females) from asian localities reach lengths of around 70cm.
The source I got them from didn't have any locality data, etc.
I am going to split the groups if they prove to be different subspecies.
I will post some pictures in the next few days.

A tad bit late but here are some photos.
What are the characteristica of the different subspecies of V.renardi?
I can give a scale count or supply sheddings if needed.

WW,do you have a copy of the paper I mentioned in my post beforehand(I saw that it was mentioned on your website)?
