Black and Grey Rat snake? Middle Tennessee

While mowing the yard I spotted this beautiful snake at the base of a large tree. I had to take a picture of it, which I will provide here. It moved slowly and didn't have any trouble climbing the face of the tree trunk to about 30 feet into the branches. The snake was approximately 8 ft in length. Any information would be great.

That is a black ratsnake. There might be a lttle gray rat intergradiation as those are found in western Tenn. In any case it's harmless.

Thanks for the information. I didn't think it was a threat to my family, just wanted to identify it. We really enjoy the wildlife that thrives near our home. Except, perhaps, the spiders....
