Egyptian Diadems

nechushtan Jun 18, 2003 05:35 AM

Does anyone know about the color phases of the Egyptian Diadem Rat snakes? I was under the impression that it was the Pakistani Diadem snakes that got orange with black uneven blotches as they got older but I've recently seen a picture of a juvenile with the more distinct Egyptian pattern and another picture of its supposed sire who was orange and spotchy. Do the Egyptian Diadems maintain their distinctive pattern through their lives or do they turn orange with irregular black patches?

I'm glad you asked because I was wondering about that too. I just saw an add on the classfieds here yesterday with a baby and an adult pictured. The baby looked just like my 30 inch pair, a pretty pattern of brown and beige. Yet, the adult was orange with black splotches.

I've also seen a girl that looks like mine for sale at Prehistoric Pets and in the caption it says that she will turn a vibrant orange as an adult.

If I had known these guys would lose their beautiful pattern, I probably wouldn't have bought the pair. As it is, their temperment leaves more to be desired! LOL!

I have been thinking of buying a pair of these for awhile now and was windering about their personality and how they act in captivity. I would love to hear about anyones experience with these guys......Scott

They are little stinkers!! LOL! My pair are little (20-30 inches long each) and I doubt they were handled much before they got to me. My male bit the heck out of me the first day he was here and still strikes on occassion. (Not that they can really do any damage...LOL!) The female isn't as bad but close. And, both of them are major hissers! You can hear them across the room when you walk by their tank. It's really funny!
