Bottom of Enclosure- nessasary?

agrrlandherguy May 28, 2004 01:34 PM

Hey guys. I am in the process of revamping my Sub-Adult Ig's cage as he is growing like a weed and needs bigger shelfs, ect.

He has a large cage but it is taller than wide. There are 2 doors, one top and one bottom, but the bottom door is never used. He never goes to the ground and more than 1/2 of his cage is going unused. I was thinking of cutting the cage in half and then connecting the 2 halves together side by side insted of on top of each other. It seems like the cage was originally designed that way so I know it will work... but my question is will that be bad for him? I would put it on stilts and just have one huge long cage with lots of shelves and basking areas and he would still be above eye level and therefore still feel like a "king".

Just wanted to get some advice as to what people thought about that. Do the NEED a ground-level area to their cages or not?

Thanks!

Most animals use the ground level for doing their waste business. USe newspapers over vinyl.

Well then I think I should still be ok. This particular Ig has a "potty branch" that he uses and it will still be included in the redesigned cage. He actually goes specifically to this one branch and is very careful to hang his rear end and tail off of the branch as to not get any poo on it, and then let's loose. Hes pretty smart like that.

Well since nobody else replied, I am going to take that as my new design will be ok.

Thanks.
