A question on meal worms

Herp-Boy May 28, 2004 03:48 PM

A while back I had bought a little malanistic baby leopard gecko. I had brought her into the petsmart with me while I got some mealworms. One of the employees there said that I should cu the heads of of the mealworms because they could bite their way through the stomach of the gecko and kill it. I know this might sound a little akward but tyhat is just what she told me. I was wondering if this was true and if I should continue to cut off the mealworms heads. Thanks for any advice.

Here's one of the most important pieces of advice I've ever been given:

In GENERAL, people at Petsmart & Petco don't know what they're talking about.

This would apply in the case of your recent experience.

I have heard they can, but I have done enough research that I highly doubt that they would do that, the acids from the leos stomac would kill the meal worm, and no air down in there tummy!

I happen to agree with you on how the mealworm would be dead before it could even think about biting it's way out. Quite a nasty thought of a mealworm biting it's way out though isn't it.
