At the very least, once a week, I clean out Manny's cage. In order to do this, I have to take him out of it and place in a large laundry hamper (he likes this because he gets to climb on the sides). However, since he's still rather young, he is still pretty scared of my hands. So when I reach in (slowly, and from the sides) to pick him up, he completely freaks out. He goes scrambling around the cage in a panic, and I try to pick him up the whole time (careful not too move too quickly--I don't want to frighten him even more). But after about a minute of this, he just stops and lets me pick him up. He's perfectly comfortable sitting on my hands, and doesn't even care if I stroke his back or anything. He'll even kind of flick his tongue on my fingers sometimes. So then I put him in the hamper, clean out the cage, and start the whole thing over again. It takes even longer to get him out of the hamper.
Does anyone have any explanation for this, or maybe some tips? Any help is greatly appreciated.
