Hi Ed,
I've read that hardwicki do that in nature. I don't know if other uros do it or not, but note that hardwicki doesn't have the sharp tail spikes of other uro species so it perhaps it needs a more secure place to sleep.

what little bit of research I've done has shown that some uromastyx species in the wild will fill in the burrow behind them for one of two reasons (depending).
1.If they cannot burrow far enough out of reach of predators, they will enclose the burrow behind them to try to ensure a safe sleeping area.
2.To maintain good humidity. They will usually do this in the wild when shedding, or trying to reserve as much water as possible.
It's very interesting what these little lizards do in the wild. They are pretty unique.

Have you ever seen any of your egyptians do this??(Maybe when they where smaller?) I have a year old male who does this same thing. - Adam

well, not to horn in on your conversation but are you asking if he has ever seen his lizards "flatten" themselves like that? i have yet to see helga, my uro, do it but my collareds do it every morning. it is something to do with them being able to absorb more sunlight. i know i have read that somewhere and as soon as i find it i will post it. the collards also do "stretches" every morning. they are pretty good at doing splits.
anyway i think it is really cute and i love to watch them "flatten" themselves.

Hey Adam-
Yes.
Every one I have and I would thiink every uro that's out there. They do that to increase the amount of surface area they can expose to the light source the have.
How long have you had him?
