Discoids or Hissers?

dubumb May 28, 2004 08:51 PM

I wanna start my own feeder roach colony... I cannot decide whether or not I want to start with Discoids or Hissers... What do you guys think? What are the advantages/disadvantages of both?

If you are feeding Gex....I would try lobsters. I have no discoides experience but hissers get big fast and breed slowly. I breed hissers for my big savannah monitors. Lobster roaches max out just a bit bigger than crix. I can feed nearly adult ones to leopard geckos. Lobsters breed like fleas. Downside...they climb and need 'bug proof' tubs.

Could be, I have never had a tegu. How big is it? My Savannah monitor is 3ft and I have no idea ....maybe 4 pounds and LOVES hissers.

I'd stick with lobsters for a tegu and like sonya said you get more bang for your buck...once they get going you'll have a food source you'll never have to replenish...i started with a few months ago and have thousands now
