another food question. i promise once she is fat i will stop!

well, i really think helga does not understand the concept of the food bowl. today i got desparate and started throwing pieces of her corn in her general direction to see if she would notice them and she started eating them right up. i threw every piece of corn at her and she ate them all. i tried it with the carrots but it did not work. i bought some peas tonight in hopes if i throw those at her tomorrow she will eat them. however, if she only eats the corn, is it ok if i feed her a ton of that until i get her fatter and then try to get her to eat other things? i will keep putting other things in the cage but i just really want her to eat. like i see all these pics of your uros and she is nowhere near as chubby as them.

I just had a dish problem also. I was putting greens in a dish and mine did not eat. then i put greens and powder mix on a flat plastic lid and he started pigging . Someone else also had the same thing happen (see a few posts down)
maybe that will work.
good luck

I would avoid corn, especially if it's the only thing she will eat. Maybe try tiny bits of winter squash - if she's after the yellow color, maybe she'll go for those. It's better for her than corn.

a reply to both of you:
thanks for the advice. i stopped using a bowl and started using a flat lid about a week ago and when she would drag her body over the food and make a mess. mostly now that is what she eats, the pieces on the floor so i have stopped picking them up since she is just on a floor mat right now.
i think from what i have read corn and peas can be eaten but should not be the primary food source and so far that is all that she will eat. i will try the squash thing, although i fear for my fingers if i have to dice or cube something with a knife but if she can live without toes, then maybe i can live without fingers, ha ha.
thanks again

Ah, what we will do for these little guys...
The peas are good for fattening up, but aren't the best nutritionally. The corn had something else going on, too, besides nutrition. It doesn't digest well, or something. I don't remember the specifics.

Hope things improve soon!

yes, i do make many sacrafices for my babies, the collareds and the uro. since i am a poor grad student, i love the days when they feast on veggies and crickets and i have to eat ramen.

well i will definitely stick with the peas till she is a little more fat then and i will try to wean her off the corn or at least wean her from eating so much of it. well i am off to go check on them.
