Get her temps up! 86-88F ambient with a 95F basking spot. If it gets worse, take her to the vets. It sounds like RI, but she could have just gotten a drink, and when she hissed at you some water may have come out, but if it's bubbly it is probably RI.

Good luck,
Chad

I second that advice...do you keep any other snakes?

bachman May 29, 2004 04:09 PM

I just sold a large venomous collection (had to move & could't take them with me) that included King cobras, E. Brown snakes, Kraits, Mambas, PNG Black snakes, over 50 Naja (various cobras), Death adders, and a few crotalids & vipers. Now I'm down to some Balls & 2.2 leucistic spitting cobras (Naja sputatrix). Venomous is my love (mainly elapids), and as soon as I'm able, I will get them again. Shhh, I'm keeping the leucistic spitters hidden amongst the Ball...LOL.

Taipans & probably others I forgot.

ok i just set temps higher, how would she have gotten a RI?
too humid? what should her humidity be at to help her recover?
thanks

bachman May 29, 2004 05:03 PM

They could get RI from either too high or too low humidity, but keep it at least 50% & 70% would be about perfect. 70% humidity is perfect only if you have good air flow in the cage, if you do not have good air flow, bacteria will thrive & cause respiratory problems.

Hope this helps.

i have 4 bp's and i keep them all the same, i just checked her humidity gauge and it's showing about 60%
i have holes drilled along the front of the containers, is that good enough airflow?

bachman May 29, 2004 06:14 PM

I usually drill holes on both ends, but it souns fine. Your humidity sounds great, and as long as the temps are good, or corrected, it should clear up quickly (if it is RI).

Good luck, let us know.

I agree with the first post. It is probably an URI (Upper Repiratory Infection) but MAY be just clearing it's throat. If it persists after a week of passive treatment (raising the temp and humidity) PLEASE take it to the vet. LMK how it comes out, OK?
