Questions on racks?

justinmatthew May 29, 2004 02:58 PM

As of now I have two ball pythons, one kenyan sand boa, and one black kingsnake. The bp and sb are kept in a rack system using 32qt rubbermaid tubs, and the bk is kept in a ten gallon aquarium. All at this point are juveniles and fit comfortly into their homes. My question involves the future. I have had some tell me that the 32qt tubs are ok to keep adult bp in, but I would like to go bigger. I know the ksb should be ok for life in the 32 qt tub. I have examined other larger tub sizes but they all seem to be deep instead of long or wide. Does rubbermaid or any other company make tubs that are suitable for adult bp? For those who keep kings, or milks, corn, etc., in a rack system what size tubs are acceptable for adults. I'm not in any hurry but in the future I would like to acquire some more pets and just want to be aptly prepared. Thank you for your help and sorry for the length of this post.

it's a good idea to plan ahead.i built a rack that i think would fit your needs.it holds three different size sterilite tubs,12qt. (#1954),28qt. (#1956) and 41qt. (#1960),these tubs are all appox. the same height.it has 10levels and each opening is 35" wide.you have three options on each level, one 41qt. length wise, one 28qt. and one 12qt. or three 12qts.i have adult kings and hondos in the 41qt. including a heavy bodied 5ft. desert king,02kings in the 28qt. and yearling kings, hondos, BP'S and adult rosy's in the 12 qt. tubs.it's constructed out of 5/8" melmine with 3" flexwatt belly heat.my temps go down to 60 degrees sometimes so i have 3/4" foamboard insulation on the back and bottom,it usually varies 3-4 degrees from the top level to the bottom level.have fun!
