torn skin on chuckwalla

username854 May 29, 2004 04:05 PM

could a vitamin or mineral difficiency cause skin problems.
it looks like my chuckwallas skin is starting to rot, what could be causing it. It looks terrible and the skin isnt shedding right its dying and tearing of.I need to adress the problems so it doesnt continue to tear or leave scars.I think that the change in diet from what it used to eat in the desert is causing it.but im not sure.

Can you post or send pictures?

It could be any number of things, but it may best addressed by a visit to a vet.

GET IT TO THE VET! Sounds like bacterial dermatitus. I had this problem a few year ago with some of my chucks. We(the vet and I) determined it was caused from long term low humidity levels that did not allow the animal to shed properly. It is husbandry relayted not diet. It can also be caused by high humidity which is more common.
