Qeustion about coloration

PatrickR May 29, 2004 09:06 PM

I have two pictures both posted by jaffo... but what I was wondering is that if both are Arizona Black Tails then why do they look so different..

http://hem.spray.se/minax/galleri/bilder/86658_Molossus-Chiricahuas-4.jpg

if its not a color morph thing then please help me rationalize this... if it is a color mrph thing.. can someone please tell me what the bottom one is...

I ask this becasue I'm extremely interested in aquireing a Crotalus Molossus but only if it looks like the second picture.. (Im picky)

Thanx all

The molossus in the wash is a "Desert Phase" blacktail while the one in the Chiricahuas is a "Mountain" blacktail, terms we Arizonans use to differentiate the different appearances. Molossus are extremely variable, both from one locality to the next and also from one individual to another at teh same locality.

Thank you for explaining that in depth... Now my only problem is finding a CB'03 or CB'04 breeder to obtain me a juvenile from the Chiricahuas mountain region

thanks again

looking for quality Huachuca snakes. That particular Chiricahua snake is not quite the norm for the Chricahuas. But that particular look is pretty common in Huachuca snakes.

I'm somewhat confused as to what you mean by Huachuca snakes... as far as I can find it is a city and a fort in arizona... I dont live anywhere near arizona..I live in the midwest... Do you or anyone else know of someone who sells CB animals with a similar look? I cant go herpin for this specie but wouldn't wanna take them out of the wild if I can get CB anyways

thanks
