PatrickR May 29, 2004 11:10 PM

I have two pictures both posted by jaffo... but what I was wondering is that if both are Arizona Black Tails then why do they look so different..

if its not a color morph thing then please help me rationalize this... if it is a color mrph thing.. can someone please tell me what the bottom one is...

I ask this becasue I'm extremely interested in aquireing a Crotalus Molossus but only if it looks like the second picture.. (Im picky)

Thanx all

Without even looking at the pics I can tell you that Blacktails are VERY Variable. I have seen everything from tan and black with heavy black staining to lime green and white with no black at all. My favorite was a female that I got from Greg Longhurst that was green with sharp black saddles and bands.

I don't know if it is locality specific.

And what I mean by this is that Blacktails from Texas are primarily shades of silver/grey and black, and Arizona Blacktails are primarily shades of yellow and black. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
