An interesting find in Florida....

Keith Hillson May 30, 2004 12:50 AM

A person sent me this pic today. It was found in Oseola Co. - St. Cloud to be exact. It was discovered in a neighbors yard and is 30" long or so. This snake shows zero sign of intergration from what I can see which is odd as its right in the middle of an intergration zone between getula and floridana . Anyone have any thoughts ? Does anybody catch Kings in this area ? Its a beauty for sure .

Looks like an escapee to me. There are a number of species in the "area" however, that look much like snakes found farther north. Some corns and such from there look much like the ones found in GA.
That king just doesn't fit though, IMO.

I kinda thought that as well. She asked me what she should do with it in regards to releasing it. I wonder if she should at all ???

I would tell her not to release it. There's someone nearby no doubt who would adopt it. Central FL. herp Soc.? I think they have a link on KS.

Looks very similar to getula found in GA with those bands going all the way down the sides. And it looks very healthy too. Did she say what kind of area she lives in? If it's a subdivision filled with homes, I'd guess it would be an escapee as well.
